Apply on a flat metal surface – Racing magnets work best on smooth, steel panels. Aluminium, fiberglass, and carbon-fiber and other composites are non-magnetic and won’t hold the panel.

Avoid placing over door gaps or hard body curves– Door gaps or harsh lines can reduce the magnet’s grip, increasing the risk of air being caught underneath coming off at high speeds. Place the magnet on the flattest part of the panel for max adhesion.
- Ensure full contact – Smooth out any air pockets to ensure a flush fit.
Some scrutineers demand tape on the leading edge. Clear tape on the leading edge can help avoid air catching the magnet. I recommend this Bear Clear All Weather low-tact tape from Bunnings as it leaves very little residue.
